A former Carrier Mills man was killed by a gunshot wound in New Orleans Jan. 9.
Henry "Hank" Collins III, 22, was shot in the chest in the early morning Jan. 9, according to a Jan. 17 story in The Times-Picayune citing Orleans Parish Coroner's Office Investigator John Gagliano as its source.
Collins was shot in the 2000 block of Pauger Street in the St. Roch neighborhood and was alive when police were called to the scene at 6:41 a.m. He was pronounced dead at 7:20 a.m. and — evidently having no possessions — was identified a week later through fingerprint analysis, according to The Times-Picayune story. Police had not identified either a suspect or a motive.
Born in Frederick, Md., Collins attended public school in Carrier Mills as well as the Caribbean School in Puerto Rico, graduated from Bolingbrook High School and had attended Lewis University in Romeoville, according to obituary information provided by Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills.
He was the son of Henry Collins Jr. and Karen Collins of Anchorage, Alaska, and the brother of Alexis D. Collins-Harris of Forrest Park.
Collins was adventurous and traveled often and his dream was to become a hip-hop lyricist, according to the obituary.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at Felty Funeral Home with visitation 1 p.m. Saturday until the service time. He will be buried at Lakeview Cemetery.
