SWIMMING: Pinckneyville gets past Chester, 167-81

Pinckneyville finished last Thursday's weather-shortened home swim meet against Chester with the upper hand, 167-81, before Mother Nature forced the event's premature ending after 29 events.

Team history was made at the abbreviated meet, however, as the boys 11-12 200 yard medley relay record was improved by almost seven seconds. Barrett Denny, Steven Hirte, Nile Adcock and Joey Wright finished the race at a time of 4:23.60 to get the win for the Dolphins. Pinckneyville won eight of the ten relay races on the night.

Karsen Konkel (boys 9-10) also set a team record, breaking Steven Hirte's mark in the individual medley with a time of 2:04.26, winning that race and the backstroke.

Amelia Carter (girls 9-10; IM, backstroke) and Roslyn Sronce (girls 11-12; IM, backstroke) also had time to win both of their individual events for Pinckneyville.

The rest of the Dolphins' winners on Thursday included Nile Adcock (boys 11-12; IM), Abigail Barnes (girls 13-14; IM), Savannah Cheek (girls 15-18; IM), Reed Marlow (boys 6 & under; backstroke), Elyssa Shoenbaechler (girls 6 & under; backstroke), Landen Carter (boys 8 & under; backstroke), Madison Braun (girls 8 & under; backstroke), Steven Hirte (boys 11-12; backstroke), Cole Kelly (boys 13-14; backstroke), Evan DeRosia (girls 13-14; backstroke) and Ian Henne (boys 15-18; backstroke).

A rundown of the top four finishers for Pinckneyville in each of the 29 events appears on the scoreboard page of today's newspaper.
