Du Quoin dancers members of the SIU Saluki Shakers team

Two Du Quoin women are headed to Walt Disney World in Orlando in January for the collegiate dance nationals as members of the SIU Saluki Shakers dance team.

Bri Green of Du Quoin, the daughter of Ronnie and Sandi Green, has been a member of the Shakers for two years.

This is the first year as a member of the Shakers for Victoria "Tory" Cavitt, daughter of Brian and Lisa Cavitt of Du Quoin.

The high energy teammates were both members of the Du Quoin High School Indianettes dance team and are choreographed by Tawmi Conley of Du Quoin, the Saluki Shakers' coach.

There are 19 girls on the team and they perform at SIU Saluki athletic events throughout much of the year. There are also local team members from Murphysboro, Benton and Marion. Shakers have to try out each year.

The girls will be rehearsing during the Christmas break for their competition at Walt Disney World and are currently in the process of raising money for that trip.

One of their major fundraisers is the Saluki Shaker calendar. The new calendar should be out next week. The photographic work was done by Jason Hill of Du Quoin. The calendars are available at SIU Saluki sporting events and your purchase of a calendar will help the team.
