Nelly makes statement with opening grandstand show

Things got hot Saturday night at the Du Quoin State Fair as rapper Nelly took to the Grandstand before a large, enthusiastic crowd.

The St. Louis-based rapper and entertainer brought hits including his smash 2002 single "Hot in Herre." His appearance brought in larger crowds than have been seen in recent history at the Grandstand.

Eager concert-goers began lining up early, and the headliner didn't take the stage until after 9 p.m. - more than 90 minutes after the show's scheduled start.

Chicago 6 opened the fair with a free show Friday evening, and Chris Janson played a show Sunday with High Valley. The popular Gin Blossoms performed Monday. Tonight, it's Granger Smith with Drew Baldridge kicking things off at 7:30 p.m. Look inside today's issue for a complete schedule of events at the Fairgrounds.
