Logan student, Hunter Franklin to compete on 'American Ninja Warrior'

CARTERVILLE - Hunter Franklin, a student at John A. Logan College, will compete this season on NBC's "American Ninja Warrior."

Franklin was lifting weights at the college's health education complex last week. At 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds, Franklin believes he has what it takes to be a strong competitor on American Ninja Warrior.

Franklin is a 2017 graduate of Crab Orchard High School. He and a friend, Caleb Vaughn, also of Crab Orchard, practice their ninja warrior skills on a homemade course built in Vaughn's backyard.

On April 29th and 30th, Franklin will take his skills to the show and compete during season 10 of the American Ninja Warrior.

A lot of what he will need is raw strength, which, he said, the college's health education complex has played a big role in developing.

"This is a great place to develop strength," Franklin said. "There is so much equipment here and the people around me are so supportive and that plays a big part in it all."

American Ninja Warrior is an action-packed series that follows competitors as they tackle a series of challenging obstacle courses in both city qualifying and city final rounds across the country. Franklin will compete in Indianapolis.

Those who successfully complete the finals course in their designated city move on to the national finals round in Las Vegas where they face what is described as a stunning four-stage course modeled after the famed Mount Midoriyama course in Japan. The winner takes home a grand prize of $1 million.

Franklin is majoring in business at John A. Logan College.
