'Howl at the Moon' fundraiser comes to SIC Feb. 16

SALINE COUNTY - Ferrell Hospital and Southeastern Illinois College have partnered for a fundraising event with the world famous Howl at the Moon Dueling Pianos. Concert for a Cause will take place Valentine's Day weekend, Saturday, Feb. 16 in the SIC cafeteria.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for guests to arrive, choose their seats, visit raffle tables and enjoy the photo booth by Keith Kingery Productions of Eldorado. At 6:15, a pasta dinner buffet by the SIC Falcon Pointe Bistro will be served. Then at 7 p.m., the dueling pianos show begins. Bar services will be available, as will commemorative glasses to mark the occasion.

SIC President Dr. Jonah Rice had the idea when he recently visited Howl at the Moon in Chicago.

"We believe fundraisers should be fun, and after seeing the show in Chicago, I know Howl at the Moon will be a great time for everyone in the area, while also raising money for both our community partner, Ferrell Hospital, and for our students," Rice said.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Ferrell Hospital with the purchase of cardiac rehab equipment and scholarships for SIC students.

Howl at the Moon pits musician against musician with high-energy live music centered on dance hits and party anthems. The musicians bring in all their own equipment and take requests by the audience in all genres of music. They continually engage with the audience, and much dancing can be anticipated. The first HATM opened in Cincinnati in 1990, and now has locations in major cities all over the US and internationally. The event will feature the traveling version of HATM, which is Howl2Go.

Alisa Coleman, CEO of Ferrell Hospital, described how the proceeds would be used at Ferrell Hospital.

"We are very excited to partner with SIC for this event which will benefit the communities we both serve. The hospital selected the Cardiac Rehab program as a recipient of the funds raised during this event. The cardiac rehabilitation program at Ferrell Hospital combines exercise and education to help patients return to an active and productive lifestyle after a cardiac event. Since February is National Heart Month, it made it an easy choice for the proceeds to be directed to Cardiac Rehab," Coleman said.

Tickets are $30 per person, $50 per couple and $200 for a table of eight. The pasta dinner is included in the ticket price.

Corporate sponsorships for the event also are being accepted. Levels range from $100 to $1,000 sponsorships and all include tickets to the show and varying degrees of publicity.

Seating is limited. Call (618) 297-9611 to purchase tickets or request sponsorship information. opened in Cincinnati in 1990, and now has locations in major cities all over the US and internationally. The event will feature the traveling version of HATM, which is Howl2Go.
