The Chester Quarterback Club will host its annual Meat Wheel fundraiser March 17 -- this year to help CHS purchase a piece of equipment for the CHS practice field designed to help players improve ball control and their blocking skills.
The fundraiser will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Chester Eagles Club, 402 Hacker St., Chester, with food and fellowship for CHS football supporters.
Billy Belton, head CHS football coach, said the Quarterback Club will have the usual meat wheel that raffles bacon, pork steaks and pork chops throughout the afternoon, but also has added a twist.
"We will also give away smoked pork butts after every three rounds of the regular meat wheel giveaways," Belton said.
A potluck-style meal will be provided by the football players and their families, as each player brings covered dishes and snacks for the huge serving table.
As well, free samples of the pork butt barbecue that is being raffled off will supplement the potluck.
"All of our guests can have lunch or snacks for free!" Belton added.
Other items will be raffled off as well, like a reconditioned official CHS YellowJacket football helmet and 2019 CHS Football season tickets.
Participants can take a chance or several chances to be the first YellowJacket fans to get their reserved seats via free season tickets to be given away by the Quarterback Club.
The Quarterback Club donates all proceeds from the event to benefit the Chester YellowJacket football team.
"Specifically, the club wants to help us purchase a new piece of equipment called a 'Blaster' (a Fisher Athletic Football Blaster)" Belton said. "This will help our running backs with ball control and there are also some blocking pads on it to help build our blocking skills."
The Quarterback Club was started about three years ago by former CHS football players and YellowJacket fans.
The club paints the field before each home game, sells sandwiches off the grill at each home game and even feeds the Jackets and the visiting team after select home games.
Overall, the Quarterback Club assists Coach Belton and the team in any way possible. The "Meat Wheel" fundraiser is just the beginning of the supporting activities for CHS Football prior to the 2019 season.
The public is encouraged to support the fundraiser.
