Women's Club hosts Easter prayer breakfast

The Chester Women's Club hosted its annual Easter Prayer Breakfast March 29 at Reid's Harvest House Restaurant in Chester, with 27 members and seven guests in attendance.

"This prayer breakfast has been going on since before I joined the organization back in 2004. It is a long-standing event and enjoyed by everyone who attends," said Norma Baughman, Women's Club Prayer Breakfast chairwoman.

Baughman is joined on the Prayer Breakfast Planning Committee by fellow Women's Club members Lois Tindall, Carolyn Schwent, Mary Ann Stumpe and Wilma Whittenberg. The group worked hard to make this year's event a huge success.

As attendees arrived at the venue they were greeted by Toni Hosick who served as the greeter and ticket taker. The breakfast area was beautifully decorated in a tulip theme with fresh tulips. Baughman and her daughter, Jeanette Decker created the floral arrangements which included a wall-hanging.

The breakfast began with a welcome by Women's Club President, Christine Bowles after which the opening prayer was provided by Pastor Dennis Scoville, Interim Pastor at Peace Lutheran Church in Chester. Members and guests then enjoyed a bountiful and very delicious buffet provided by the chefs at Reid's Harvest House.

After the meal was complete and everyone was satiated, guest speaker Pastor Dennis Scoville presented his message titled, "Passover of the Lord." In his presentation, Scoville discussed Easter practices and traditions that lead up to Easter Day. He explained several events and practices involved with Easter Week and the "how-and-why" involved with such happenings.

"Pastor Scoville did a wonderful job. Everybody loved his presentatiwon and it was very informative and meaningful. We were very happy to have him as our special guest pastor and enjoyed his message", said Baughman.

In closing, Scoville gave a benediction and the formal portion of the program was concluded. Following the closing, several members enjoyed visiting for a brief period and had an opportunity to meet Scoville.

Baughman noted that the program booklet had a very moving message to everyone in attendance. That message read, "Easter Blessings. May you feel Christ's love in your heart and be filled with his peace & joy this Easter season and always!"
