Rotary clubs replace Good Samaritan House floor in Carbondale

The three Rotary International clubs of Carbondale recently partnered in a joint effort to renovate portions of the residence area of the Good Samaritan House on Marion Street in Carbondale.

Beginning in February, members of the Rotary Club of Carbondale and the Rotary Club of Carbondale-Breakfast volunteered to remove the old flooring and base trim in the second-floor residence hallways and adjacent rooms. Rotary members provided more than 80 hours of volunteer time as part of the effort.

The project continued with the installation of 800 square feet of Shaw Paramount floating floor. Niemann's American Flooring supplied materials.

Flooring installers Justin Lacey and Jeremy McCame provided the skilled labor for the installation of the ginger oak-colored vinyl plank floor. A new cove base was installed trimming the new flooring. Rotary also purchased a new vanity and bowl for the bathroom. The staff at Good Samaritan painted the walls and trim to complement the flooring.

"The Good Samaritan House provides valuable services to residents of the Carbondale area," said Kristine McGuire, president of the Rotary Club of Carbondale. "The partnership of the local Rotary clubs at this facility is a project which will help the Good Samaritan Ministries continue to provide for the needs of many in our area and reinforces the guiding principle of Rotary, which is 'Service Above Self.'"

The Project Leader was Rotary member Jerry Molumby. Aur Beck, president of the Rotary Club of Carbondale-Breakfast, worked closely with Molumby. The Sunset Rotary Club of Williamson-Jackson County and the Carterville Rotary Club, along with the two other clubs, provided financial contributions.
