Clothesline Project illustrates problem of violence against women
This powerful display of decorated T-shirts was on the campus of John A. Logan College in Carterville Tuesday. Clothesline Projects all over the world are meant to remind people of violence against women.
The Project originated in Hyannis, Massachusetts in 1990 when a member of the Cape Cod's Women's Defense Agenda learned that during the same time 58,000 soldiers were killed in the Vietnam War, 51,000 U.S. women were killed by the men who claimed to love them.
The local display was placed there by staff at The Women's Center In Carbondale, which also has a satellite office in Marion.
