2018 Scouting for Food campaign collects whopping 4,300 items

The 2018 Chester Area Scouting for Food Campaign collected 4,300 items of food and other needed nonperishable items, all of which was taken to the Chester Area Christian Food Pantry to shore-up the dwindling supply of available food.

"This effort comes at just the right time for us," said Bob Koenegstein, director of the food pantry. "During the holidays lots of people are in need of food and our shelves often become bare or in great need of replenishment.

"The Chester Boy Scouts come through each year and for that we are extremely thankful!" he added.

The effort by the Chester Boy Scouts was part of a larger, one-day drive by the Greater Area Boy Scouts Council, which announced it collected 1,970,766 items of food to stock the shelves of food pantries throughout the St. Louis Metro Area, Southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.

Ronald Green, executive of the Greater St. Louis Area Boy Scout Council said the council is grateful for another generous Scouting for Food collection.

"These efforts would not be possible without the entire community stepping up to help those in need," he added.
