Vintage Market opens in Chester

The newest business in Chester focuses on some old treasures.

Vintage Market has opened in the old Thrift Store location on Swanwick Street next to Coffey's Creations in the city's historic uptown district.

Partners Marge Sanders and Allison Blechle bought the building that contains both Coffey's Creations and Vintage Market, and will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the latter on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

"We were just talking at Allison's pool one day that we ought to bring some new business to Chester," Sanders said. "So, that's how the idea was birthed. We looked at different properties and this one was on the market."

Vintage Market will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"It's uptown, so it's right in the middle and there's a boutique next door," Sanders said on what she likes about the location.

"Stacey, with her new business, that's part of the building that we bought, so we were actually able to open another new business for Chester. This was a nice little grouping and it looked like it had a lot of potential."

Blechle said the business is currently working with around 30 consignors, including some from outside Chester.

"We have antiques, crafts, we do have some newer retail also," she said. "I think that's what's going to be the draw because there's going to be something for everyone.

"If you don't like antiques, you're going to like a craft or newer retail and the floral arrangement, I'm ecstatic with the lady who does these floral arrangements."

Blechle has done the display work in the store and stated the pair has received a great response from people about the new venture.

"I'm excited, I'm nervous, because this is definitely a new adventure for the both of us," Blechle said. "I've never been a business owner before."

Sanders was asked what it felt like to her to be a business owner.

"It's emotional for me, I wish my mom, Shirley Lillard, was here," Sanders said on what it felt to be a new business owner. "She passed away a couple years ago and then my oldest brother died last year, which it would have been nice to have him here to tell me I shouldn't have done it every single day, but it would have been fun.

"I wish they were here to see it."
