Ava man injured in storm-related accident

A 24-year-old Ava man, Zachary Hoyt, was transported to Chester Memorial Hospital on Wednesday night after a single-vehicle accident on Wine Hill Road near Ballpark Road.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, Hoyt was driving a 1995 BMW 318ti eastbound on Wine Hill Road, three-quarters of a mile west of Ballpark Road when he attempted to negotiate a right curve too fast in rainy conditions.

The BMW went into the westbound lane before going into a spin and running off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then traveled down a hillside before sliding backwards and striking a utility pole.

The impact with the pole spun the BMW back around and it came to rest at the edge of a nearby treeline facing into the woods.

Hoyt was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, which was reported at 8:58 p.m.
