Pierre Menard Home Christmas Festival this weekend

The Pierre Menard Home in Ellis Grove will hold its annual Christmas Festival in 19th century tradition this weekend.

The three-day event starts with tours on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and includes an evening celebration on Saturday night and a Childrens' Hour on Sunday.

Saturday's events start with tours from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The site will be closed from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for setup of the evening celebration that begins at 5 p.m.

The evening celebration will take place outside (weather permitting) and guests are invited to enjoy a soup snack with bread and other goodies, a lantern-led tour of the home at 7:30 p.m. and listen to Christmas music of the time.

On Sunday, tours of the Pierre Menard Home will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., with a Childrens' Hour from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Children will make ornaments for the house tree, or to take home. They can also construct dolls or make string popcorn for the house tree. Stories about Christmas in America during the 1800s will also be told.
