Awards at next city council meeting

Chester Police Department staff and some members of the public will be honored Jan. 16 at the Chester City Council meeting. Police Chief M. Ryan Coffey said there have been as many as three "selfless and brave acts" that deserve recognition, and has asked Mayor Tom Page to reserve some time Jan. 16 to honor these people. The meeting begins at 6 p.m.

Harassment policies

Municipal policies on sexual harassment, sexual discrimination and sexual assault are being finalized and are expected to be implemented in early February.

Fundraisers in 2018 for 'Cops and Kids'

Coffey said the "Cops and Kids at Christmas" program, in which 80 children from around Randolph County went shopping with officers to buy gifts for their families, was a huge success, thanks mainly to contributions. Coffey said the goal now is to hold a few fundraising events throughout the year, to serve as the financial support the program needs.

Play for the purse

St. Mary's PTO Purse Bingo will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at St. Mary's School Gym. Ten games of Bingo, with each game being for a designer handbag (Kate Spade, Michael Kors and Coach and moreas well as shopping opportunities from different direct sales vendors. $25.
