Murphysboro man sentenced to 10 years on Saline County gun charge

A 23-year-old Murphysboro man pleaded guilty April 16 to a weapons charge that stemmed from an incident at the Saline County Housing Authority in Harrisburg in December.

Demetrius T. Flowers, age 23, entered a guilty plea in Saline County Circuit Court to a Class 3 felony charge of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

Judge Walden E. Morris sentenced Flowers to 10 years in prison, with one year of mandatory supervised release.

The 10-year sentence is the maximum term of imprisonment authorized under Illinois law for the offense.

On Dec. 8, 2017, the Saline County state's attorney's office filed charges against Flowers arising from an incident in which Flowers, a felon, was caught in possession of a pistol while on the premises of the Saline County Housing Authority.

In 2015, Flowers had been convicted of a Class 4 felony offense of driving on a revoked license.

The investigation of Flowers' case was led by the Harrisburg Police Department. State's Attorney, Jayson Clark, led the successful prosecution of Mr. Flowers
