Bike Month activities continue in Carbondale

  • Ron Dunkel, coordinator for the SIU Student Center Craft Shop, leads a small, community-minded bike ride from the Student Center to the Murdale Shopping Center Friday as part of the city's ongoing National Bike Month activities. The city, which in recent years has greatly expanded its number of designated multi-purpose bike and pedestrian paths, has a series of small events planned leading up to the annual bicycle luncheon May 31 at Turley Park. Among the highlights: a social media-savvy bicycle scavenger hunt, with the winner to be announced at the May 31 luncheon. Details are available at explorecarbondale.com or on the city's Facebook page @ExploreCarbondale. Newly printed city bike maps also are available at city hall.
