Five questions with ... Kim Kelly of Johnston City

1 Should school be open year round, or does it just make more sense for kids to have the entire summer off?

No, I think it's just fine the way it is. It gives structure and routine in the summer and time to spend with family.

2 Have you lost confidence in SIU's leadership - the president, chancellor, board of trustees?

Yes. When the chancellor creates jobs for his family that SIU grads had no opportunity to apply for and the president sends emails with inappropriate language and the board of trustees can't even call a meeting without arguing who is in charge, it makes me wonder what is really happening and who is minding the store.

3 How productive do you think the face-to-face meeting will be between President Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong-un?

I think it's a horrible idea. It's absolutely terrifying to me. It's like having a meeting with Hitler and Hirohito and thinking nothing bad will come of it, that we're all going to be OK. They all want to take over the world.

4 What is your favorite summertime activity?

I love to go hiking and exploring.

5 What is your take on ABC's decision to cancel "Roseanne" for remarks the actress Roseanne Barr made in a tweet?

She's obnoxious and untalented anyway, so it's no great loss. It's really all about money. For some reason, people liked the show and ABC saw dollar signs. Then they saw they might lose money.
