Fults man hurt in accident

A Fults man was injured in a two-vehicle accident near Ellis Grove on June 10, according to Randolph County Sheriff's police.

According to a police repot, a vehicle driven by Richard Anderson, 55, of Fults was traveling northbound on State Route 3 in Ellis Grove around 8:15 p.m. when he slowed down and prepared to turn left onto Roots Road. A 2002 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Barbara Best, 50, of Staunton drove up from behind and attempted to go around Anderson's 1996 Chevrolet S-10., striking the vehicle on the left front, according to the report.

Best's vehicle continued northbound in the grass on the northwest side of the intersection, crossed back onto State Route 3 and came to rest on the northbound shoulder. Anderson's vehicle spun across the intersection and came to rest in the ditch on the north side of Roots Road just west of the intersection.

Anderson was taken to Red Bud Regional Hospital, police said. A passenger in Anderson's vehicle, Julia Smeier, 9, of Fults, was unhurt, according to police.

Police ticketed Best with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
