Chester library, police to present programs on safety, opioid crisis

The Chester Police Department and the Chester Public Library are partnering this summer to keep you safe and informed. Three programs, one for children and two for adults, will be presented by the Chester police at the library.

A free "Mini-Safety Course for Kids" will take place from 3-5 p.m. July 17. Children are invited to meet with Chief Ryan Coffey and Chester police officers to learn about the responsibilities of a police officer, internet safety, cellphone safety, and personal safety. Parents and/or other caregivers are encouraged to attend the last 30 minutes of the event. This event is geared for children entering 2nd-5th grades. Registration by July 15 is required.

An adult "Mini-Safety Course" will take place at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Chester Public Library. Chief Coffey and other officers will share information about internet safety, telephone scams, staying safe in public places, and more. Registration is required for this event by July 31.

"The Opioid Crisis" will be the topic at the third presentation at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 9. Chief Coffey and other members of the Chester police will present a program on the opioid crisis in our community and across the country. Participants will learn the origins of opioid abuse and how to reduce risks for yourself, your loved ones, and the community. Registration is appreciated but not required for this event.
