Ballpark Road to be closed during Thresherman's Show in August

PINCKNEYVILLE - The City of Pinckneyville's unrestricted bank account balance as of June 30 was $824,496.40, which is $551,173 higher than it was on June 30, 2017 - and only $154,609.92 shy of the balance on June 30, 2015.

The city will sponsor Family Fun Night, from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, July 27 at the Fairgrounds. The council agreed to donate $1,500 to help with the cost of the event.

The American Thresherman Association Show will be held Aug. 15-19 at the fairgrounds. The council gave permission for the ATA to close Ballpark Road beginning the morning of Monday, Aug. 13. It will reopen on the morning of Monday, Aug. 20. The opening parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 15, starting at the Fairgrounds and following the route of the annual Mardi Gras parade. The Pinckneyville council has agreed to donate $1,500 from the Hotel/Motel Tax fund to help offset some of the advertising costs.

The Pinckneyville Knights of Columbus will be on the Square from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 27, raising money for people with disabilities. The money collected will be donated to District 50 Special Education, and Southern Illinois Special Olympics.

The council approved Resolution No. R-2018-20, which moves money around internally. A recent audit of the city's 2015 Motor/Fuel Tax by the Illinois Department of Transportation discovered that the city had paid for a 2015 highway project with money from the wrong city account. Now, $8,706.59 in motor fuel tax money will reimburse the account from which the payment was originally made.

The Pinckneyville council also approved a contract between the city and James L. Heller and Scott E. Heller (J & S Services) for $6,555.00, to mow the following properties for the City: 101 N. Walnut St., the former site of the Pinckneyville Community Hospital; 108 Hawkins St.; the designated rights of way within the Imperial Heights Subdivision; designated rights of way in Cedar Pointe Subdivision; and designated rights of way at the intersection of State Route 154 and Blue Bunting Road near the Pinckneyville Correctional Center.

The council has authorized the city to enter into an agreement with Certop Inc., to be a Class A water operator. It is a three-year contract and yearly increases will be determined by the Consumer Price Index. If the water operator works more than five hours in a week, the hourly rate will be $75.

The council reached an agreement with Tionna B. Hunt, who damaged a guardrail on Fairground Road over the 2017 Labor Day Weekend. Hunt has agreed to pay not less than $100 a month until the city is repaid $4,175, the cost of the guardrail repair. In this deal, she is not being charged interest, but if Hunt misses a payment the city will be entitled to add interest to the remaining balance.

The council agreed to grant Bethany Lindner, owner of Serendipity Salon, up to $5,250 for facade improvements and up to $12,500 for internal improvements to her salon. Each grant will not exceed more than one-half of the total costs of the projects. With the improvements, she is planning to hire up to two full-time and two part-time employees.
