At the fair CCHS junior is Duck Derby ambassador The big race will be Sept. 2 at the Du Quoin State Fair

Special Olympics Illinois athlete Sheridan Kevonne Coleman of Carbondale will serve as the 2018 Duck Ambassador at the Duck Derby Dash Sept. 2 at the Du Quoin State Fair.

Coleman, 16, is a junior at Carbondale Community High School and has been a Special Olympic athlete for five years. She competes in basketball, track and field, softball, bowling and bocce ball. She enjoys music, dancing, adult coloring books, eating healthy and hanging out with her cousins. She also volunteers at local food pantries and spends time at her church

Race day at the fairgrounds will kick off at 1 p.m. with a parade. The ducks race at 3 p.m., to be followed by live music, face painting, games and an appearance by Splash Duck, the race mascot.

"Adoption" fees are $5 per duck, six ducks for $25, 24 ducks for $100 or 60 Ducks for $250. The prize to the winning duck will be $2,000. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Illinois.
