Council honors officer for 30 years of service

Retiring part-time Chester Police Officer Kevin Woods was honored for his 30 years of service by the Chester City Council Oct. 15.

Police Chief Ryan Coffey said Woods had served in that position since 1987, adding that several of the current 0fficers were not born yet when Woods started.

Coffey spoke of the commitment Woods demonstrated to the city. He held a full-time job and found time to serve the city as well. He often altered his personal plans to help other officers who needed time off.

Woods was presented with a plaque from Coffey and Mayor Tom Page in recognition of his 30 years of loyal and dedicated service.

Several members of the Police Department were on hand as well as retired Officers to offer their appreciation to Woods as well.

Page asked Woods to stay for the rest of the meeting and for good reason. The council named Woods to fill a vacancy as a new member of the Police and Fire Commission.
