Round 1: Chester travels to Warrensburg-Latham Saturday

The Chester High School YellowJacket Football Team has made the playoffs for the 2018 IHSA Class 2A Tournament. This is the second straight year the Jackets have qualified for playoffs and the 16th time in the history of YellowJacket football.

Chester joins a field of 32 teams that will be competing for the title of 2018 IHSA Class 2A Football Champion. The Jackets will travel to Warrensburg, Illinois to face the Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals. Warrensburg is six miles northwest of Decatur on Rt. 121. There is a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.

Warrensburg-Latham is a school of 297 students which is housed on a campus covering 82 acres. The school is in District 11 which covers approximately 92.3 square miles and has classes ranging from pre-Kindergarten through 12th grades.

Students come from a wide range of backgrounds and lifestyles ranging from the rural farming communities to the city likes of Decatur and Forsyth.

The Cardinals are coached by Head Coach Scott Godfrey. He is assisted by six assistant coaches and five managers. The varsity team is comprised of nine seniors, 12 juniors, five sophomores and six freshmen for a total roster of 32 players.

The football program also has a 28-man roster of junior varsity players and a 16-man roster of freshman team athletes.

Warrensburg-Latham comes into the playoffs with a 7-2 record. Some of the teams that the Cardinals faced this year include Cerro-Gordo, Lutheran School Association of Decatur, Sullivan, Central A7M, Meridian, Tuscola, Clinton, and Shelbyville.</group><group id="A061F662-EFCF-4AEA-96CC-D9D29DEA966F" type="seoLabels"><seoLabels></seoLabels></group></idf></inlineXML></contentSet>
