Henry to seek reelection Three Carbondale City Council seats also in the mix

Carbondale Mayor Mike Henry announced last week that he will seek reelection in the spring 2019 municipal election.

Henry, first elected to the office in 2015, cited accomplishments including working more closely with SIUC administrators, funding and implementing the first two phases of the Downtown Streetscape plan, overseeing the eclipse and Halloween celebrations downtown, and the passage of balanced city budgets.

Moving forward, Henry cited the need to continue working with SIU, complete the Streetscape plan, and obtain funding for a planned transportation center downtown.

"As I have said many times before, together we are making Carbondale the place that you and I, our children and grandchildren are proud to call home," Henry said in his prepared statement.

If more than two candidates file for mayor, a primary election will take place Feb. 26. The consolidated election will take place Tuesday, April 2. Elections for three city council seats - those held by Tom Grant, Navreet Kang and Adam Loos - also will take place on those dates. Candidates have been circulating petitions, and those petitions are due at city hall between Nov. 19 and 26.
