Symphony celebrates a big centennial A Tuesday concert at Shryock Auditorium will observe the end of World War I

The Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra will observe the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I with music from the many nations involved in that conflict.

The program begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Shryock Auditorium on the SIU campus.

Selections include "Barber of Seville Overture" (Italy), Elgar's "Nimrod" from the Enigma Variations (Great Britain), "Requiescent in Pace" (Canada), Fauré's "Pavane" (France), Themes from Tchaikovsky's "Pathétique" Symphony (Russia), Brahms' 1st Symphony Finale (Germany), Haydn's "Farewell" Symphony Finale (Austria-Hungary), "Variations on a Shaker Hymn (USA) and Sousa's "In Flanders Field" (USA, Canada, Belgium). Edward Benyas conducts.

Sigma Slpha Iota music sorority will be organizing a food drive at the concert. They will accept all non-perishable foods, as well as toiletries and monetary donations. SAI will donate all collections to the Good Samaritan House in Carbondale to use for their Thanksgiving meal.

Tickets to all SISO performances at Shryock are $20 general admission, or $8 for students of any age.
