Man struck by car on Wall Street

A man was seriously injured Tuesday night following a vehicle-pedestrian accident on South Wall Street.

Lt. Paul Edwards of the Carbondale Police Department reports that the police and fire departments responded around 9:29 p.m. to a report of a vehicle colliding with a pedestrian in the 500 block of South Wall Street.

Officers learned that the vehicle was traveling northbound when it struck the man as he attempted to cross the street on foot. 

The man, whose name has not been released, was transported by Jackson County Ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for treatment of life-threatening injuries. He later was flown to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis for further treatment. 

The vehicle's driver was not injured in the crash. Any possible charges will be pending the outcome of the investigation.
