Lawrence O. McDonough of Ellis Grove

Lawrence O. McDonough, 85, of Ellis Grove, Illinois, passed away at 12:35 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Evelyn's House, in Creve Coeur, Missouri.

He was born to the late Harry and Sarah (nee Fisher) McDonough on Aug. 7, 1933 in Ellis Grove.

Lawrence married Shirley Mae Seymour on Aug. 25, 1951 in Ellis Grove, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 2016.

Lawrence was a captain at Menard Correctional Center for 27 years.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ellis Grove where he served as a deacon. He was a woodworker and worked craft shows with his wife. He also enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with his grandkids and family.

He is survived by three children, Larry (Anita) McDonough of Ellis Grove, Bruce McDonough of Ellis Grove and Donna Schroeder of Chester; three brothers, Norman (Toq) McDonough of Columbus, Ohio, Arlen (Joyce) McDonough of Bethalto, Illinois and Ray (Mary) McDonough of Port Orange, Florida; three siblings-in-law, Robert (Linda) Seymour of Snowflake, Arizona, Allen Miers of Ellis Grove and Linda Blow of Ellis Grove; six grandchildren, Natasha Kincaid, Matthew (Chelsea) McDonough, Melissa (Tony) Martin, Michelle (Marcus) Davis, Britney Schroeder (Fiance Danny Roth) and Lindsey Schroeder; 12 great-grandchildren, Loegan (Robbie) Anderson, Dylian Griffith, McKinzie (Zach) Martin, Alyssia Griffith, Kyndl McDonough, Rylie McDonough, Maelee McDonough, Cayson McDonough, Anna Martin, Marcus Davis II and Brooke Davis; and three great-great grandchildren, Arabelle and Eloise Anderson and Sebastian Martin.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Sarah McDonough; his wife, Shirley McDonough; son-in-law Scott Schroeder; a brother, Gene McDonough; a brother-in-law, Richard Seymour; two sisters-in-law, Norma Hall and Carrie Miers; and one nephew, Michael Blow.

The funeral service for Lawrence McDonough will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Ellis Grove, with the Rev. Robert Seymour officiating. Interment will follow at the Ellis Grove City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 at Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester and again from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at First Baptist Church in Ellis Grove.

Memorials are requested to go to Evelyn's House, in Creve Coeur, Missouri and the Lake Sallateeska Baptist Camp, in Pinckneyville.
