Mary Limbaugh of Chester

Mary Limbaugh, 96, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at her home.

She was born to the late John Bay and Mary Segius (nee Thomson) Heagler on Nov. 5, 1922 in Paraguld, Arkansas.

Mary married Manley O. Limbaugh on Feb. 26, 1943 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; he preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 2018.

Mary was a special-education teacher at Chester Grade School for two years, Willisville Grade School for one year and at Coulterville Grade School for 28 years until her retirement.

She was a legacy member of First United Methodist Church, in Chester. Mary was active in United Methodist Women, where she served in all the official capacities as well as being a district Shepardess and was the head of the kitchen committee for many years. She was also active in the Wesleyan Service Guild and taught Sunday school for many years.

Mary was a member of the Chester Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered in the gift shop. She delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Chester Women's Club, Red Hat Society and Western Egyptian Volunteer Program - and was honored along with her husband as Citizen of the Year in 1995. Mary was an excellent seamstress and loved to cook.

She is survived by four of her five children, John (Cindy) Limbaugh of Germantown, Tennessee, Dan (Paulette) Limbaugh of St. Louis, Bob (Cathie) Limbaugh of St. Charles, Missouri and Patti (Bill) Nanney of Chester; one son-in-law, Tim Mathias of Glen Carbon, Illinois; one brother, Richard (Janace) Heagler of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Mary Bee Mathias; three brothers, William Heagler, John Heagler and Robert Heagler; and one sister, Martha Goree.

The funeral service for Mary Limbaugh will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, at Pechacek Funeral Homes, in Chester, with the Rev. Faye Edmiaston officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 29 and again from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, at Pechacek Funeral Homes.
