Police respond to multiple gun calls Monday

Carbondale Police stayed busy on Monday, responding to four reported incidents involving guns in a matter of hours.

Shortly before noon on May 6, officers responded to the 400 block of Robert A. Stalls Avenue in reference to shots fired. No one was injured, but officers located and arrested Quinn Payne-Brandon, 21, of Carbondale. Payne-Brandon has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons.

Then, police say officers responded around 6:10 p.m. to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale regarding a victim who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound while in the 400 block of East Chestnut Street.

At the same time, officers were conducting a separate investigation of a person with a firearm at the Fields Apartments, located in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane. During the investigation, officers arrested Phillip D. Howard, 29, of Murphysboro on a charge of unlawful possession of firearm ammunition by a felon. Officers also recovered two firearms.

Finally, at 8:15 p.m., another victim was dropped off at the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound that was sustained in the 400 block of East Ashley Street, adjacent to the location of the evening's first incident.

All the investigations are active and ongoing. Police say that although there is not information available to connect the three evening incidents, there is also not information available to rule out that they were related.
