Man accused of stalking child at mall

A man faces multiple charges after he allegedly stalked a small child last weekend at the mall in Carbondale.

Carbondale Police say they responded around 3:53 p.m. Sept. 8 to Macy's at University Mall in reference to a report of a possible attempt to abduct a child. Officers learned the suspect, identified as Argenis Hernandez, 23, of Chicago, followed the victims and an infant child inside the business and attempted to photograph or record them with a cell phone. During the course of the investigation, officers located Hernandez and arrested him for stalking and disorderly conduct. Hernandez was transported to the Jackson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing has been set for Oct. 1 at the Jackson County Courthouse.
