Dist. 300 creates committee to discuss naming of facilities

DU QUOIN - The Du Quoin District 300 School District Board of Education met in special session last Wednesday and heard information from Superintendent Matt Hickam regarding the district's hiring policy and procedures.

Hickam said there is no substantive change in the district's hiring process.

"We are just formally adopting the process and will flesh out some details within those processes with the help of faculty and administration," he said. "The formal process will be proposed at the regular meeting next week."

The policy for considering the naming of school facilities/property requires approved proposals to be considered by a committee created by Board President Zach McPherson consisting of seven members.

The members are to include two board members (named as McPherson and Trent Waller); a representative from the Educational Foundation (Rich Gossett); a representative from the Du Quoin Education Association (Derek Beard); two community members with one being a retired educator and one being a parent of a student in the district (Mike Wilson and Keenan Rice, respectively); and the superintendent.

An initial meeting of this committee was tentatively set but had to be canceled due to a conflict.

Hickam also shared a letter from the Illinois Association of School Boards thanking the board for their continued membership in the organization.

The board approved a request from high school FFA sponsors for group participation in the national FFA conference in Indianapolis.

The meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m.
