Marching Terriers enjoy success

The Carbondale Community High School Marching Terriers have had a tremendous marching competition season this fall.

The show "I Believe" explores a blueprint for creating positive change in the world. The show includes featured soloists John Patton and Nathaniel Pimentel, featured orator Emma Partlow, and 70 musicians and color guard members.

Along with performing at all the home football games, the band competed in five marching competitions this fall. They kicked off the season in September with a win, defending their 1A Championship title along with winning best color guard and best drum majors at the Sage City Invitational in Monticello. They closed out September with strong performances at the Tiger Ambush and The Lions' Classic. The band then marched into October winning their class at the SIU Music and Motion competition also winning best drum majors and best percussion.

Last weekend the band won best music, best color guard and best percussion, placing first in their class at the McKendree Preview of Champions. This weekend, they perform in the SIU Homecoming parade.

The band is under the direction of Greg Townsend along with student leadership of drum majors Rachel Burke , Jodie Meredith and Grace Park.

These performances kick off a year of great music for CCHS as they look to continue a nine-year streak in the top 3 music programs in Illinois after finishing second for the 2018-19 school year. Upcoming events include performances at the CCHS football games Oct. 18 and Oct. 25, along with a concert Nov. 21 at the CCHS Auditorium.

Upcoming fundraisers include their annual Christmas tree sale running for two weeks starting Black Friday and Trivia Night in the early spring.
