CHS recognizes fall senior athletes, band, dance and flag team members

With the official close of all fall athletic competitions, Chester High School recently recognized all fall athletes. Likewise the CHS Music Department recognized the Marching Yellow Jackets, Dance Team and Flag Team members for providing entertainment and spirit at fall athletic events.

The Chester Football Yellow Jackets were recognized prior to their Senior Night game when Chester hosted Carmi-White County on Oct. 18. The Jackets beat the Bulldogs 28-8 to make the night complete.

Stadium announcer Luke Lochhead greeted the seniors. "These seniors have dedicated themselves to academics and athletics throughout their high school careers," he said. "The Chester School District would like to thank them for their loyalty and dedication to our athletic programs over the past four years."

The football team finished the season with eight senior players including Ethan Bert, son of Tim and Michelle Bert; Gage Bollmann, son of Brett Bollmann; Daniel Clendenin, son of Kevin Clendenin and Becky Clendenin; Ethen Eggemeyer, son of Nate and Terra Eggemeyer; Marisellis Malone, Jr., son of Craig and Jami Hawkins; Jacob Miller, son of Ian Miller accompanied by his aunt Andrea Sonnier; Brendan Murphy, son of Brian and Karen Murphy and Krista Schafer-Murphy; and Ian Reith, son of John and Jill Reith.

Each senior was presented with balloons and flowers and players and parents were presented to the Chester fans across the field in front of the grand stands as they were introduced.

The CHS Cheerleading Squad featured three seniors: Amira Al-Jassim, daughter of Samir Al-Jassim and Michelle Prange; Jessica Handel, daughter of Carl and Trish Handel; and Ashtyn Jany, daughter of Jeremy and Kelly Jany.

The Chester Yellow Jacket Cross Country Team was introduced next. This year's squad had three senior girls and two senior boys.

Lady Jacket cross country runners were Adeline Blechle, daughter of Chris and Valerie Blechle; Ryn Petrowske, daughter of Ryan and Joby Petrowske; and Avery Runge, daughter of Aaron Runge and Farrah Runge.

Senior runners on the boys' squad were Trent Bierman, son of Mr. John Bierman and Ms. Denise Bierman; and Chris Schwier, the son of Don Schwier and Lois Schwier.

The 2019 CHS Golf Team featured one senior boy and four senior girls: Kayla Bert, daughter of Marty and Karen Bert; Maddie Hasemeyer, daughter of Mike Hasemeyer and Mrs. Tracey Hasemeyer; Jocelyn Landeros, daughter of Horacio and Patricia Landeros; Alyssa Place, daughter of James Place and Tim and Jessica Luckhaupt; and Chett Andrews, son of Dean and Denise Andrews.

At halftime of the game, the CHS Music Department honored the senior band, dance and flag team members, 24 in all. There 16 senior band members, six senior dance team members and two senior flag team members.

Senior band members are Gabe Asbury, son of Dustin and Christina Houk; Wes Carpenter, son of Jerry and Kelly Carpenter; Kierra Gross, daughter of Jack and Kim Gross; Jessica Handel, daughter of Carl and Trish Handel; Taylor Hennrich, daughter of Darrell Hennrich and Barb Diebolt-Hennrich; Wyatt Johnson, son of Shawn Johnson; and Shawnell Madison, daughter of Ms. Carolyn Gray and adopted granddaughter of Mr. Charlie Bargman.

Other senior band members included Chloe Page-Keim, granddaughter of Ms. Teresa Page and Raymond Bockhorn and daughter of Miss Jennifer Page; Alyssa Place, daughter of James Place and Tim and Jessica Luckhaupt; Nathaniel Rains, son of Jim and Karen Rains; Chris Schwier, son of Don and Lois Schwier; Grace Stec, daughter of Greg Stec and Nichole Lewis; Cordelia Stirnaman, daughter of Scott and Sonya Stirnaman; Brianna Surman, daughter of Mark and Tammy Surman; Bailey Wahl, daughter of Earl Wahl, Jr.; and Destiny Williams, daughter of Ron and Amy Williams.

Senior Dance Team members included Kayla Bert, daughter of Marty and Karen Bert; Maddie Hasemeyer, daughter of Mike Hasemeyer and Tracey Hasemeyer; Jocelyn Landeros, daughter of Horacio and Patricia Landeros; Avery Runge, daughter of Aaron Runge and Farrah Runge; Lauryn Vasquez, daughter of Trent and Angie Vasquez; and Mallary Vasquez, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Trevar and Susan Vasquez.

The two senior Flag Team members were Maeghan Fuller, daughter of Matt Fuller and Ashlie Cushman; and Lydia Heck, daughter of Scott and Kyra Heck.

The 2019 Lady Jacket Volleyball Team honored three senior volleyball players including Ashtyn Jany, Grace Stec and Lauryn Vasquez. The event took place Oct. 24 on Volleyball Senior Night when the Lady Jackets hosted Marion.

Jany is the daughter of Jeremy and Kelly Jany; Stec is the daughter of Greg Stec and Nichole Lewis; and Vasquez is the daughter of Trent and Angie Vasquez.

All of the fall athletic programs had good seasons and coaches were very proud of their senior athletes.
