Sandra Rae Cunningham, formerly of Marion

MARION - Sandra Rae Cunningham, 47, formerly of Marion, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at her home in Tampa, Florida.

She was born Jan. 18, 1971, in Carbondale, the daughter of Floyd E. and Shirley Jean (Combs) Cunningham.

Sandra grew up in Marion and was a graduate of Marion High School Class of 1989. She continued her education at John A. Logan College and Southern Illinois University.

She last worked as an administrative assistant in the insurance industry.

Sandra was very active in political affairs and attended the 2017 Women's March in St. Petersburg, Florida. She also was an animal-rights activist, who dearly loved her cats.

Survivors include her mother, Shirley Jean Cunningham of Marion; sister, Denise (Scott) Svetly of Reedsburg, Wisconsin; brother, Brian (Janell) Cunningham of Tampa, Florida; nephew, Aaron Svetly of Reedsburg, Wisconsin; aunt, JoAnn Hall of Ferguson, Missouri; close friends Rob Nonnweiler, Tonia Dalton, Carol Conley Leeman and Kelly Nichols; many cousins; her beloved cats, Lola and Nicholas; and friends too numerous to list.

She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd E. Cunningham on July 19, 2017; aunt, Margaret Johnson of Percy, who was like a grandmother to her; maternal grandparents, Alex and Winnie Combs; and paternal grandparents, Floyd F. and Helen Cunningham.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home in Marion with the Rev. John Hackman presiding. Interment will follow in Egyptian Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Energy. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cat Haven Rescue and mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, IL 62959. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
