Evelyn Jane (Dugger) Beavers-Tartaglia, formerly of Marion

Evelyn Jane (Dugger) Beavers-Tartaglia, 89, passed away surrounded by family at Brookridge Heights in Marquette, Michigan on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018.

Evelyn was born in Marion on July 12, 1928 to Pearl (Tucker) and Charles Dugger. Evelyn graduated from Marion High School and attended cosmetology school. She married James William "Bill" Beavers on Feb. 22, 1948. They raised their family in Lombard, where Evelyn worked at, and later owned, the Lombard Beauty Shop.

After Bill passed away in 1986, Evelyn relocated to Henderson, Nevada and married Raymond Tartaglia in 1992. Following Raymond's death in 2006, Evelyn moved to Gwinn, Michigan to be near family.

At age 85, Evelyn published a book that she had written, loosely based on her own life in southern Illinois and Chicago. She was proud of "What Shapes Our Life …" and had started a second book about her mother.

Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Winona Suzanne Ball of Manhattan and Sally Jo (Roger) Knicker of Gwinn, and a son, James William Beavers, Jr. (Maree) of Elgin. She will also be missed by her eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn also was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Donald and Charles.

Interment will be in Elmhurst at Mount Emblem Cemetery. At Evelyn's request, no service will be held.

Memorial donations may be sent to Gwinn, Michigan Public Library, the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.

Evelyn's family wishes to thank Dr. Catherine Kroll, Ashley Croasdell, NP-C, and the staff at Brookridge Heights Memory Support and UP Home Health & Hospice for their remarkable care and compassion.
