Laverne 'Tillie' Philips, of Ridgway

Laverne "Tillie" Philips, 93, longtime Ridgway resident, passed away on March 2, 2018.

Tillie was born in Equality on June 30, 1924 to the late Sanford and Maggie (Fuhr) Barnett. She was Presbyterian by faith. She loved to play bridge and travel. She had a wonderful life and loved her family. She attended the University of Illinois and was a member of the Ridgway Woman's Club.

Tillie was a very proud lady, always prim and proper. She will also be remembered for her contagious smile and personality. She was a loving mother and wife and was kind to everyone she met.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Judy Philips of Ridgway; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Jim Seegraves of Tampa, Florida; three grandchildren, Scott Phillips, Jennifer Bean and Cody Seegraves; five great-grandchildren, Stevie Rae Phillips, Max Phillips and Braxton Phillips, Addison and Mason Bean.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Barnett.

The family expresses special thanks to Tillie's caregivers, Velna Dobbs and Cheryl Koerber.

Graveside service for Tillie will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Elmwood Cemetery near Equality. She will be laid to rest with her parents.

Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway is entrusted with the arrangements. Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery.

Tillie requested no flowers, but memorial contributions can be made to the Equality Presbyterian Church. Friends may also leave a note of comfort to the family at www.coxandson.com.
