Bernard M. Korando of Chester

Bernard M. Korando, 90, of Chester, passed away at 6:20 a.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

He was born to Thomas and Ella (nee Shields) Korando on July 18, 1927 in Raddle, Illinois.

Bernard married Helen M. Hecht on Sept. 23, 1950 in Piggott, Arkansas. She survives.

He was a farmer and retired from aircraft management.

Bernard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis Grove, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau.

Bernard was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, farming, gardening and taking care of his animals.

Survivors include his wife, Helen M. Korando; six children, all of Chester, Katharine J. (Randy) Helmers; Dianne M. (Joe) Tindall; Gail S. (Donald) Ruch; Wayne (Annie) Korando; Donald R. (Kathy) Korando and Mary Jo (Kevin) Homan; sisters-in-law Dorothy Korando and Evelyn Hecht, both of Chester; brother-in-law Paul (Joyce) Hecht of Chester; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren (with three blessings on the way); and many nieces and nephews.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, two infant children, five brothers and five sisters.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 17 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis Grove, with Fr. Larry Lemay and Deacon Al DuBois officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Chester.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16 at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home in Chester and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ellis Grove.
