Nellie Marie Vancil of Du Quoin

DU QUOIN - Nellie Marie Vancil, 81, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5 a.m., Sunday, June 3, 2018 at her residence.

Nellie had been a homemaker. She was a member of the Sunfield United Methodist Church.

Nellie was born Dec. 30, 1936 in Du Quoin, the daughter of Claude Tine and Mary Elizabeth (Young) Cook. She married Howard Delano Vancil on Feb. 23, 1957 in Sunfield, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 2002.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Denton and husband, Roger, of Tamaroa; two sons, Joey Vancil and wife, Stacey, of Du Quoin, and Leslie Vancil of Pinckneyville; two sisters, Ann Genesio of Du Quoin and Norma McMurray of St. Ann, Missouri; two brothers, Jerry Cook of Beverly Hills, Florida and Thomas Cook of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Wilma Oestreicher, brother Claude Cook, Jr. and three siblings in infancy.

Graveside services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9 at the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin with Bro. Stephen Saucier officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the American Heart Association or the Sunfield United Methodist Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
