Betty L. Bishop of Sunfield

SUNFIELD - Betty L. Bishop, 88, of Sunfield, passed away at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Betty was a 1948 graduate of Pinckneyville Community High School. She was a homemaker after working for a short time at the clothing factory in Pinckneyville. She enjoyed attending the meetings and other activities of the Sunfield United Methodist Church Women's Group, as well as the Sunfield Home Extension Group. She was also a longtime member of the church.

Betty was born March 17, 1930 in Pinckneyville, the daughter of Henry W. and Velma (Jenkel) Huth. She married Jackie Bishop in Piggott, Ark. on Nov. 4, 1949 and he proceeded her in death on Feb. 6, 2005.

She is survived by two children, Douglas (Cyndi) Bishop of Sunfield and Donald (Kendra) Bishop of Townsend Tenn.; four grandchildren, Stephen Bishop of Sunfield, Stephanie (Bradley) Seidenstricker of Jackson, Mo., John F. (Angie) Bishop of Sunfield and Jaci Hamilton of Sunfield; two sisters, Shirley (the late Ben) Welsch of Pinckneyville and Linda (Nate) Sullivan of Croton, Ohio; and five great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three siblings, sister Mary Shute and brothers David and Charles Huth.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Sunfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Erin Totten officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Du Quoin.

Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin is in charge of the arrangements. Friends may make memorials to the Sunfield United Methodist Church Building Fund and they will be accepted at the church or the funeral home.
