Joe E. Boaz of the Glendale community

Joe E. Boaz, age 74 years and a resident of the Glendale community, passed away at 9:07 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, Kentucky.

Joe was born Sept. 30, 1944 in the family home near Glendale. He was the youngest of four sons born to James Jewell Boaz and Mary Alice (Holloway) Boaz.

On June 8, 1972, Joe was united in marriage to Southaretta West in Geneva. She survives.

Other survivors include four children, Deborah (Dan) Casaletto, Donna Prettenhofer, Jerry (Michele) Wenzel and Scott Wenzel; grandchildren Rachelle (Andrew) Rymarczyk, Amber (Edward) Wilson, Nicholas (Amber) Casaletto, Austin Wenzel, Anthony Casaletto, and Hannah Prettenhofer; great-grandchildren Lucy Rymarczyk, Oscar Rymarczyk, Logan Wilson, Calvin Rymarczyk, and Greyson Wilson; as well as nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Boaz, Jack Boaz and Pat Boaz.

Joe served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970.

He was a master carpenter and a member of the Carpenter's Union for over 50 years. Joe was the owner and operator of Joe Boaz Builders and Boaz Storage. Joe always conducted his business by the philosophy that "we don't build houses, we build homes."

Joe was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 799 in Elgin. He was an avid drag racing fan. Joe, along with his brother, owned and operated two racing cars through the years. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening as well as grilling and barbecuing. He cherished time spent with his family and friends.

Joe was a member of the Glendale United Methodist Church.

A funeral service honoring the life of Joe Boaz will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at the Glendale United Methodist Church, 464 State Highway 145 North, in Simpson, Illinois. Pastor Mike Shearer will officiate. Military rites will be accorded.

Burial will be at a later date in the Glendale Cemetery.

Visitation will be conducted before the service from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Glendale United Methodist Church.
