Mary Jane Lackey of Carbondale, formerly of Equality

Mary Jane Lackey, 78, of Carbondale, formerly of Equality, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at the Manor Court of Carbondale.

She was born on June 21, 1940 in Pueblo, Colorado, the daughter of the late Albert Clayton and Carrie (Bolerjack) Jefferies.

Janie was a retired cook on River Tow Boats for the American Commercial Co. She loved to play cards, baking, making holiday meals for her family and stuffing Christmas stockings.

She attended the Equality Social Brethren Church.

Janie is survived by her loving family, including her two sons, Steven Lackey of New Athens and Wesley (Diana) Lackey of Sugarland, Texas; her daughter, Kimberly Johnson of Champaign; her six grandchildren, Jordan (Ronnie) Von Kotz of Marion, Aaron Lackey of Bartelso, Jesslyn Lackey of Bartelso, Alex Lackey of Houston, Ross Johnson of San Francisco, and Lily Johnson of Milwaukee; and one great-grandchild, Averie Von Kotz.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister and brother-in-law, Sarah Lu and Frank Wren.

Visitation for Janie will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20 at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality.

The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21, at the funeral home. Brother Daren Roach will officiate.

Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery near Equality.
