Janet Phyllis Cavins, 81, of Murphysboro, formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:30 p.m., March 17, 2019 at Du Quoin Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Services will begin at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 21 at Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton, Illinois with Scott Marsh officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to River to River Assisted Living in Murphysboro.
Janet was born Nov. 1, 1937 in Du Quoin, the daughter of Carl and Della (Hazemeyer) Rodely. She married Edward Harlan Cavins Aug. 26, 1957 in Du Quoin. He passed away on March 16, 2000.
Survivors include her son, Grant (Lydia) Cavins, of Springfield; two granddaughters, Melissa Cavins and Sarah Cavins, of Clinton; five great-grandchildren, MaKenna, Hunter, Lucy, Persephone and Heath; sisters, June Smith of Du Quoin, Cecile Melvin of Du Quoin and Paulette Wheatley of Du Quoin; and several nieces and nephews, including her favorite niece, Theresa Rodely of Du Quoin.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; son, Edward "Eddie" Eugene Cavins; daughter, Della Margaret Cavins; and siblings Carl Rodely, May Sgroi, Loris Rodely, Marcine Cerne and Gledith Chapman.
Janet enjoyed crafts and bingo. She especially loved being with her sisters.
