John Coloni of Herrin

HERRIN - John Anthony "Whop" Coloni, 67, passed away at 4:53 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, peacefully in his sleep at home.

John was born Jan. 19, 1952, in Herrin to Donald L. Coloni and Mary (Restivo) Coloni.

He is survived by his mother, Mary; his brother, Steve (Kimberly) Coloni; his son, Richard "Bocky" Coloni, and Tammy Suddath; two daughters, Laura Coloni (Philip) Sasade, and Angela (Jerry) Coloni-Gulley, and husband, Jerry; grandkids Kyle Savant, Carley Payne, Madyson Moore, Hunter and Maggie Coloni, Trevor and Chelsea Shoup; and his special friend, Beth Clements.

John was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee Coloni.

John graduated from Herrin High School in 1970. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1970 and served four years based in Pensacola, Florida. He was a coal miner from 1974-1999, Freeman United 3 and 6. He was a founding member of the Storm Riders Motorcycle Club and served as a member from the beginning in 1979.

John enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and riding his motorcycle. John was a frequent traveler, Florida being his favorite destination.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City. Burial will be in San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin with graveside military rites conducted by the Marion V.F.W, American Legion and Navy Burial Honors Team.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Services will be officiated by Chris Ianotti with speaker, Vern Bowlin.
