Dwayne 'Cheese' Deaton, formerly of Marion

MOUNT VERNON - Dwayne "Cheese" Deaton, 87, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Marion, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2019 at White Oak Rehabilitation Center.

A graveside service will be gin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Rev. Gary Davenport officiating. The American Legion Post #141 will conduct full military honors. Interment will follow.

Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Deaton proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years. He was a retired electrician, construction worker and field superintendent.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hyde-Pillow Post L301 in Marion, and a 30-year member of the Scottish rite Bodies of Valley of Southern Illinois.

Dwayne was also a 39-year member of IBEW Local 702 and Lake Creek Lodge 729 AF & AM in Johnston City.

Dwayne was born April 28, 1932 in Marion to the late Almos Lloyd and Jewell (Sprage) Deaton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Patsy D. (VanDorin) Deaton; and brothers Gene Deaton and Harold Deaton.

Dwayne is survived by his children, Curtis (Tina) Deaton of Marion, and Delaina (John) Katubig of Brentwood, Mo.; stepson Rocky Bennyhoff of St. Peter, Illinois; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Ruth Malone of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
