Five questions with ... Pam Logan of Marshall Browning Hospital

Pam Logan is marketing director and spokeswoman for Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Q. What is your feel-good memory of a Christmas past?

I have many feel-good memories of Christmas past. The one that immediately comes to mind is my first Christmas with my grandson, Tate. It was bittersweet because it was my first Christmas without my mom. But God seems to step in when we need Him most and my heart was full of love that Christmas. The new joy of a grandchild is priceless.

Q. Is life better for you today than it was say, 5 years ago?

Every day in this life I feel blessed. I still have my 85-year-old father, a wonderful Christian husband, three sons with a strong work ethic who I am extremely proud of, a daughter-in-law that I love like my very own, and two healthy and beautiful grandchildren. Is it better than five years ago? Yes. It has been very gratifying to see my three sons grow into adulthood and be successful.

Q. Are Americans too sensitive to criticism?

We live in a world where some people take someone disagreeing with them as a personal attack. But I also believe that many Americans are passionate about what they believe and they are quick to defend it. Some do it respectfully and others do not.

Q. What do you enjoy the most about your job at the hospital?

I love my job at Marshall Browning Hospital for so many reasons. The biggest enjoyment I have is helping people in our community and working with so many wonderful employees who are passionate about caring for others.

Q. What is the best way to reduce childhood obesity in the U. S.?

I believe increasing the family's physical activity is important and parents need to lead by example. I would like to see families work at reducing time watching TV, playing video games or looking at their phones. Sitting down together at meal times is important and much healthier than picking up fast food. I do understand how difficult it is - I remember the days of running kids to multiple sports or school activities. It leaves little time to cook, but in the end, it is worth your health to take every opportunity to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle.
