BOYS BASKETBALL: Chester clobbers short-handed Elverado, 73-39

Chester used a 23-9 first quarter and a 27-8 third quarter to pull away from a short-handed Elverado team on Saturday night, beating the Falcons 73-39. EHS dressed just eight players for the game.

After the Yellow Jackets stormed to a 14-point lead in the opening quarter, the Falcons held Chester to a dozen points in the second and trailed 35-20 at the break.

But after the half, the Jackets' offense exploded once more, nearly outscoring the Falcons total for the first three periods in the third quarter alone. Chester led 62-28 after 24 minutes and cruised in the fourth quarter.

Luke Jones scored a team-high 21 points for EHS. Tyler Funk added eight points, Sage Sarensen five, Justin Sarensen three and Chase Cross had two.

The Falcons (3-7) travel to Dongola for their holiday tournament beginning this Friday. Elverado takes on Dongola at 2:00 p.m. before returning in the evening session to meet Pope County at 6:00 p.m.

Saturday's action has the Falcons matched up with Joppa at 6:00 p.m.
