Early runs help MJHS baseball team beat Harrisburg

MARION -- Four early runs held up as the Marion Junior High School baseball team downed Harrisburg, 6-2, Thursday in a Big Seven Conference game at the Crisp Sports Complex.

MJHS is still unbeaten at 15-0 with a 9-0 mark in conference games.

The Wildcats got on the board quick after Trevor Jackson doubled and Devyn Wright singled in the first inning. Mason Gooch reached on an error to bring in a run and Chase Austin singled in a run for a 3-0 lead.

Gooch drove in another run in the second inning -- after Jackson doubled again -- then Gooch singled and scored in the fourth as Austin collected an RBI single.

Gooch finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Austin had two hits with three RBIs.

Nehemiah Goodman, Lukas Shrum and Jackson all had two hits.

Marion plays Friday at Mt. Vernon, then travels to Carbondale on Monday.
