CARBONDALE -- Atlexus Green hit five 3-pointers and scored 21 points to lead Carbondale to a 45-26 win over the Marion High School girls basketball team Tuesday night in a South Seven Conference game.

Green, a senior guard, nearly outscored Marion by herself not only for the game but also in the first half. Green had 14 points at the break, when the Terriers led 24-15.

Marion is now 10-8 overall with a 1-4 mark in the South Seven.

It was back-and-forth early on.

Marion had a 9-7 lead after a basket from Jasa Bell, then Green's first triple gave the Terriers the lead early in the second quarter.

Baskets from Jordan Turner and Bell gave Marion the lead again at 13-12, but Green's second, third and fourth bombs put Carbondale ahead for good.

Maddie Doan, who had 11 points, also hit two 3-pointers in the first half, including one with 1:15 left that allowed the nine-point margin.

Green picked up where she left off with a trey to start the third quarter, which ended with the Terriers holding a 33-21 lead. A pair of baskets from Brianna Simelton and another 3-pointer from Doan helped extend the margin in the fourth.

Marion was led by Bell's 10 points. Abby Bayer had eight, with five coming in the third quarter. Jordan Turner had four and the other points came from Lauryn Kadela and Jackie Drury.

Simelton and Elexis Richardson both chipped in six points for the Terriers.

Marion's next three games will be on the same court. The Lady Wildcats will play in Carbondale's Mid-Winter Classic against Carterville (Jan. 15), Mascoutah (Jan. 18) and Massac County (Jan. 20).
