Murphysboro takes down Wildcats

MURPHYSBORO -- Marion once held a 10-point lead in the third quarter but Murphysboro held the Wildcats to one field goal in the fourth quarter in a 46-39 win Tuesday night in a non-conference boys basketball matchup.

Marion is now 15-10 with three straight losses, while Murphysboro improved to 18-6.

Marion led 18-15 at halftime after trailing 12-7 at the end of the first quarter, then led 29-19 in the third quarter but Murphysboro surged in front 29-28 going into the fourth.

Jaron Gaston hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points for the Red Devils, who nailed eight treys in the win. Jeremy House added 12 points, with nine coming in the second half.

Justin Saddoris led Marion with 11 points and his 3-pointer in the fourth quarter was the Wildcats' lone field goal in the period.

Terrell Henderson and Jackson Connor both added 10 points. Connor had six of his points in the second quarter.

Jaden Lacy added four points, all in the first half, while Cole Schafer had two points and both David Fletcher and Boston Ziegler chipped in one apiece.

Marion has two home games this weekend, starting with Friday's matchup against Belleville Althoff. The Wildcats also host Meridian on Saturday.
